One method to categorize infrastructure types is to divide them into hard infrastructure and soft infrastructure. Hard infrastructure refers to the physical networks that are required for the modern industry to function. This comprises highways, bridges, and trains, among other things. All of the institutions that keep a country’s economic, health, social, environmental, and cultural norms up to date are referres to as soft infrastructure. Educational programs, government data, parks, recreational facilities, law enforcement organizations, and emergency services are examples of this.
Every 2–4 years, the American Society of Civil Engineers issues an “Infrastructure Report Card,” which provides the organization’s assessment of the state of various infrastructures. The grade 16 different areas as of 2017, including aviation, bridges, dams, drinking water, electricity, hazardous waste, inland waterways, levees, parks and recreation, ports, rail, roads, schools, solid waste, transportation, and wastewater. The infrastructure of the United States has been giving a “D+” rating.
